Receiving Gifts and Blessings

This is an old commercial but I used a photo of this as a visual for what I shared at church about tithes and offerings.
Here’s the video:

The guy in the video only received half of what he wished for because he only gave half of his biscuit. Disappointing, right?

In this world, we would have lots of disappointments and disillusionments. These would often lower our expectations of God and we would tend to expect just far too little of Him.

Last July 4, 2012, God had completely broken that mindset of mine when my Mom was hospitalized. She had cellulitis on her right leg but she got really ill because of the complications brought by her hyperthyroidism and low immune system. She stayed in the hospital for 10 days, the first three days of which, was spent in the ICU.

When we brought her to the hospital, I only had about Php2,000 in my wallet. I would really worry every time I received the prescriptions and lab requests but God reminded me of Ephesians 2:8. It says:

For by grace you have been saved THROUGH FAITH. And THIS IS NOT YOUR OWN DOING, it is THE GIFT OF GOD.

I was reminded that our God is gracious. He loves giving gifts and He is generous so I just trusted Him and there was never a lab test and prescription that we weren’t able to pay for. God helped my mom so that she could quickly recover. God used various people and circumstances to bless us and it was always on time. The meds, tests, our food, daily expenses and hospital bill amounted to more than 30K.

Let us never doubt that God can and will provide for us (not just half! ^_^). The God in our Bible is the same God of our own experience. He can still do the great things He had done. Just have faith and everything will fall into their proper places. You will fully receive the blessings that He wants to give you.

*I shared this at church last August 5, 2012 in the 9 and 11AM services for the tithes and offering part of the service.
